Approximately 200 km long, the Costa Blanca North runs from Gandia in the north, down to the bustling historic city of Alicante, just over 2 hours flight time from the UK. It is synonymous with miles of powder white beaches, year round sunshine and that famous, laid back Spanish lifestyle.
Northern Costa Blanca offers a spectacular mix of unspoilt beaches, breathtaking mountain scenery, orchard- covered valleys, acres of orange and lemon groves, and picturesque Spanish villages. Upmarket towns steeped in Spanish traditions, such as Denia and Altea, picturesque coastal towns including Calpe and Moraira add to the charm of this beautiful, tranquil region. Benidorm with its mountainous backdrop, golden beaches and tourist attractions remains a Mecca for holidaymakers.
Situated between Valencia and Alicante are over 30 golf courses including the Oliva Nova, a regular feature on the European Tour; plans have been approved for a further 25 courses. The area is extremely popular with the sailing fraternity; Valencia will host the prestigious America's Cup in 2007.
Because Costa Blanca covers such a vast area, house prices can vary greatly. You can buy a 3 bed, 2 bath villa with pool and at least 1000m2 of land 20 minutes from Valencia city from just 200,000 euros. A 1 bedroom studio apartment in the centre of Benidorm can cost the same amount. If you are looking for a renovation project, you can snap up a townhouse needing reform from just 50,000 euros about 30 minutes inland, or one that is already reformed from 150,000 euros.
Many people buy holiday homes on the coast, while the local Spanish prefer to buy cheaper property further inland. Benidorm remains a popular property market with the British; the Dutch and Germans prefer to buy property in places such Calpe and Denia.
House prices are still rising at 20 percent per year along the Costa Blanca North. Further north around Valencia City property rose 31% in Jan-March 2005 due to investors buying into the area which will host the world renowned America's Cup in 2007.
